Southern Christmas Show 2008
November 24, 2008
Santa comes to Uptown…
This year was the first of what we hope to be many, many more Christmas Show Rooms at the Southern Christmas Show. We chose the uptown loft theme to enable patrons to experience a more non-traditional Christmas Celebration! Space, of course, is limited in a loft therefore more contemporary designed furniture and minimal use of accessories allowed for a spacious yet holiday oriented living space. The use of red, white and silver allows the room to glow in the spirit of the Holiday Season. The accent wall of brick not only creates a focal point within the living area but also adds a depth and texture to the space that evokes that true loft feel!
Christmas Delivery
November 22, 2008
We had a client come to us with a request…A custom child’s bed for Christmas Day delivery! It is possible…we worked with a company called Never Grow Old Toys to create this custom CXT truck bed with mattress included for a four year old little boy to be surprised with on Christmas morning. Todd Alexander was wonderful to work with on this; it started with a photo of Daddy’s real truck and then the drawings began. It took about two months to get everything ironed out and completed but on Christmas morning everyone was in awe! The client has contacted me several times since and we have been told it is still the favorite item in the room. If you would like more information about a project like this please feel free to contact Dragonfly Designs to help make your little ones Christmas a memory!
Private Residence
November 21, 2008
This remodel of a three bedroom, two and a half bath townhome in South Charlotte was one of my favorites. It was a bachelor pad when we started its makeover! White walls, brass light fixtures and hardware throughout, along with outdated appliances in the kitchen. So we created a plan to have a warm but neutral color scheme add life and definition to the walls; it really helped to enhance the great trim work throughout the home’s interior. Second step was to select new fixtures and hardware to replace the brass that existed. Once those items were installed it began to take shape; then it was onto the kitchen. All of the white appliances were replaced with more streamlined, stainless steel appliances that helped to open the space and allow for easier clean-up. Along with the appliances came the granite countertop, the old laminate was dark and dated, therefore by removing the countertop, we were able to open the space even more by installing a lighter, warmer granite as the new work surface. The original cabinets remained but received a good cleaning to help brighten them and appear new again. In each of the bathrooms, the plate glass mirrors were removed and new framed mirrors were installed. This helps customize without going overboard on style and budget. A new dining room table finished out this portion of the remodel; we have continued to help the owner update their home each month by adding something new to the mix!
Southern Ideal Home Show
November 21, 2008
This was our first time working with the Southern Shows to provide an inspiring design room for the Southern Ideal Home Show in September 2007. The constructed space was approximately 10 feet deep by 20 feet long. We chose to sample a contemporary look by using furniture supplied by EQ3 on South Boulevard. Included in the space was a dining area, a bar top table with a pendant light, the living area designated with the small scale sectional sofa in chocolate leather and the sleeping area with the bed that included a large fabric headboard along with a chest of drawers that helped to separate the living space from the sleeping space. The design concept behind the room was meant to show that smaller spaces can really have it all and still feel roomy and comfortable!
Fireplaces
November 21, 2008
Nothing more comforting than snuggling up to a cozy fire on a cold winter’s night. And it is not just the heat that appeals-the ambiance of the flickering flames also appeals to many clients. However, as we get busier with our daily lives the assumed high maintenance of a fireplace deters most buyers away. But thanks to modern technology, those days are long gone. Modern systems can be either gas or wood-burning. Most new systems are much more efficient that traditional systems of the past. Specially designed systems actually require no fans and are designed with convection and radiant heating components.
Pomilla Bench
November 21, 2008
This project was for a client that wanted to create a breakfast nook just off of their kitchen. The client’s desire was to make the seating area comfortable for entertaining and having conversations while she prepared meals. “I want my guests to be with me while I make dinner but I want it to feel like we are in our living area.” Therefore, the custom banquette was produced to do just that, bring the comfort of the living area into the eating area. You will notice that the seat is leather, ease of the cleaning spills and other foods. Also, the other two fabrics used are colorfast as well have been treated with a fabric protector to ensure the longevity of the piece.
Fall into a backyard makeover…
November 18, 2008
Your everyday backyard can have a higher appeal for future summer “staycations” with these simple ideas.
- Use grass as your framework - a healthy, even lawn is a great backdrop to add other types of planting. Make sure to have drainage and irrigation in place to ensure proper water maintenance.
- When planting a bed, start in the back first and strive for a natural arrangement. Not all plants have to line up directly with each other.
- Keep maintenance in mine, you do not want all your “free time” or weekends to be spent working in the yard. Mix in low-maintenance shrubs and plants with annuals and perrenials.
- Make sure to always start all projects whether indoor or outdoor with a plan. Don’t try to do it all at one time. Stagger plantings throughout the year. This approach helps make your project to appear more natural and lived-in.
